Words are few.
Far between.
Usually 1 out of 3
is fairly good.
I see a stack
of old friends for sale
like a stack of records
outdated by radio play.

I never told you, but
our life is war.
Exile on Main Street,
not unlike living in a house
with a million little ants
and never forgetting you’re alone.

I’m resisting reality
in the form of a .38 caliber -
I have a closet full
of ways to permanently forget you,
and all it will cost
is one bullet.

title: William Cordova, ‘World Famo-Paintings’, 2004-2005

This is such an influential piece and if you are in the Boston area, you may want to at some point in your life venture down to Boston Harbor and see the ICA (The Institute of Contemporary Art) Stace took us to. Staceee Budzkooooo <3 The "STREET LEVEL" was infinite the best part.

Either way, an Ekphrastic poem. Which devART doesn't have a category for, apparently.

Thanks for sharing. I normally don't touch poetry on dA, but today I learned something new -- I don't think I've ever heard of Ekphrastic poetry before, and it's a pretty interesting concept.

I wish I could have seen the piece you were responding to in person, so I could begin to grasp how it inspired you to include notions of suicide in the last stanza. I'm just curious about it because that was the most powerful section for me.

Happy holidays and all that. : )

Well thank you very much! That was really touching, actually. Ekphrastic poetry is, actually, really difficult. I was studying at Emerson College this summer and when we visited the ICA our mission was to write three ekphrastic poems, and honestly, i think writing in form might be easier! [and I'm a free-verser].

I have links in the description to the piece but seeing each one individually is much more powerful.

Merry Christmas!!

yeah, I had checked out those links but it definitely looked like one of those "you have to see it in person" things

Cheers!
