Seven Ways of Looking At Present Tense
I.
I'm flying free. I have channeled blackbirds
and there is nothing above or below me.
II.
Every second is an update; consistently
this page refuses to let me forget
this is now and I'm still nowhere at all.
III.
There is no lemon in my tea but I'm not
so far out of place that I have lost sight
of opportunity, or lemon tree.
IV.
What used to be is gone but even in
memory it will never stop being now.
V.
Take a second and stand it on its head.
VI.
Just when you think you couldn't be less alive
you stop and realize you're thinking about
commiting suicide while still breathing.
VII.
My skin is bare, my skin is theirs to keep.
Put the Polaroid in your pocket; somewhere
something else is worth capturing on film.
